Extra Coverage to Add to your Commercial Insurance

2/1/2012 6:02:48 AM
Apart from the basic four policies you probably already have, there may be some useful extra policies you could think about adding to your commercial insurance. MA business owners need to be aware that changing weather patterns and rising crime are posing increasing threats to business interests, and spending a little extra on insurance could be a wise investment in your financial future.

What you need to look at is the range of very specific policies that target particular risks and see which of them may be useful for your business. Some to consider might be:

Terrorism coverage – this used to be part of commercial insurance but since 9/11, it has to be purchased separately.
Flood and other natural disaster coverage, like hurricane, wildfire and earthquake coverage.
Coverage for your Internet and IT related activities – there are a range of different policies available, depending on your requirements.
Transit coverage for your stock – policies are available that can help protect your goods while in transit locally and internationally, on a variety of transport.
Error and omission coverage – this helps protect you against claims of harm or damage due to the actions of you, an employee or your company.
Key person coverage – life insurance that you hold to cover someone in your business whose work is crucial to your ongoing productivity.

What you might need in the way of extra coverage depends on the nature of your business, but don’t assume that any of these situations are included in your existing commercial insurance. MA insurance agents can help you with information on the latest products available.
